Victoria Higher Education Limited (VHEL) held its very first press conference at the Cinnamon Grand to commemorate its business operations in the New Year. Sponsored by the BOI to launch and operate the Victoria Higher Education Campus (VHEC), it is a higher education Institution, which will deliver degree programs from the University of Greenwich in London, UK.

The University of Greenwich in London has been given the highest marks possible by the UK Quality Assurance Agency for teaching and VHEL is proud to deliver degree programs from the University of Greenwich to students in Sri Lanka and its neighbouring region. From left: Chandrika de Silva, Simon Dye, Russell Pearson, Nimantha Liyanage, Tanya Vidanagama

VHEL owned by EDNET, a Dubai based company, will provide the financial stability and backing required to operate in the education market in Sri Lanka. VHEC draws from its experience in setting up and developing universities in the Middle East, Dubai, Asia and Africa, and many other international partnerships and collaborations that have proved to be a success and stand today as hallmarks of educational bodies in Europe, the Mediterranean, Singapore, mainland China and Hong Kong.

The vision of the Victoria Higher Education Campus is to provide high quality British higher education at foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate levels, across a range of subjects, in Sri Lanka. VHEC aims to deliver an excellent experience to students, enabling them to move into stable employment and contribute to the local economy.

Located centrally in Colombo 4 and in close proximity to the British Council, VHEC has attracted the finest academics in the Asian region, making it a meeting point for the senior academics in one place. The programs will be taught and assessed to British quality standards and in accordance with British teaching and assessment methods. The use of IT systems and online material will feature significantly in the classrooms. The programs will be subject to inspection by Sri Lankan regulators and by the British Quality Assurance Agency.

VHEC will deliver full degree programs from the University of Greenwich right here in Sri Lanka – for the entire undergraduate program including the foundation program. For a fraction of the cost of sending your child overseas, VHEC is equipped with the expertise, financial stability and a strong network of professional educators to give your child the very best experience and curriculum that is available in the United Kingdom, right here in Colombo.

VHEC offers an international foundation program which will commence in February 2013 and a range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs from September 2013 (both on a full time and part time scheme). These include BSc (Hons) International Business, BA Hons Accounting and Finance, BSc Hons Computer Science, MBA International Business, and MSc Computer Science, all in collaboration with the University of Greenwich in London, UK.

Furthermore, students who register for the international foundation program will get a scholarship for the first year of the degree program at VHEC. Scholarships will also be available for the degree programs and the Masters programs which are due to commence in September 2013.

VHEC students will have the flexibility to transfer from VHEC in Colombo to the University of Greenwich in London, and back from Greenwich to VHEC if required at any point of their degree program. Whilst in London, they will have to pay the London fees of course. The degree is a full degree program by the University of Greenwich and will further state so on the certificate issued by the University. This flexibility is especially convenient for those students who may want to experience living overseas for a period of time or for matters of financial convenience.

A professional panel of UK experienced lecturers are on board at VHEC to ensure that teaching methodology and the UK curriculum is upheld to the highest standard and quality. This panel of educators have international exposure and have years of teaching experience with a great deal of lecturing exposure to innovative learning environments. The teaching methods are contemporary; ensuring that the classroom experience, knowledge derived and student culture created within the local campus is equivalent to that in London.

The VHEC campus will be fully equipped with modern facilities and amenities including Wi-Fi access across the campus site, a spacious student lounge, an innovative learning environment and free thinking culture, student centred facilities, a library covering several thousand topics and electronic resources, and state-of-the-art IT facilities.
