Corporate heavyweights MAS Holdings, Deutsche Bank and Dialog Axiata PLC are in search of the next batch of exceptional interns to join their annual Summer Internship Program, commencing July 2012. This joint initiative is rated one of the best internship programs in the island and has been able to achieve international standards since its inception.



MAS launched the Summer Internship Program in 2004 with the objective of giving Sri Lankan students exposure to career opportunities available at home. In 2005, Deutsche Bank partnered with MAS’ initiative to help Sri Lanka retain local talent. In 2007, the two companies were joined by Dialog Axiata when they opened their doors to allow interns to gain insight into their operations.  

To date 114 students have undergone the internship. Previous year’s programs comprised of students from local universities and foreign institutions such as Harvard, London School of Economics, Dartmouth, Cambridge and Boston University.

The program entails a two week familiarisation period in which the interns will gain an overview of the three companies, followed by a two-three weeks focused project at one of the three companies. Upon completion of the project, each intern will present their learnings, experiences and suggestions to the senior leadership of MAS Holdings, Deutsche Bank and Dialog.

In 2011 internship presentations were made to Deshamanya Mahesh Amalean (Chairman – MAS Holdings), Rohan Rodrigo (Chief Country Officer – Deutsche Bank) and Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya (Group Chief Executive – Dialog Axiata PLC).

The internship program will also include skill development workshops, adventure based training and many other exciting learning experiences that will enhance participants personal and professional development.

Students from last year’s program got the privilege of visiting the UK High Commission, Ashok Pathirage (Chairman – Softlogic Holdings), Ranjith Pandithage (Chairman – Hayleys), Otara Gunawardene (CEO – Odel) and  Ranjit Page (CEO – Cargills).

The 2011 interns also participated in two CSR projects. The students raised over Rs. 650,000 for Trail Sri Lanka, a charity where proceeds were channelled towards the construction of a paediatric cancer ward at the Jaffna Hospital. They demonstrated exceptional skills to professionally organise a musical extravaganza coined ‘All of the Lights’ to help attain their target. They also were involved in a project with the Environmental Foundation (EFL).

Applications from students who have completed their second year across all disciplines are welcome and interns are encouraged to explore employment opportunities within the three companies upon graduation.
