Winners of Information Department’s school essay competition announced

The Department of Government Information organised an essay competition for GCE O/L and A/L students under the theme ‘The new era of post-Independence Sri Lanka’ to mark the country’s 63rd independence day.

The essay competitions were conducted in all Sinhala, Tamil and English languages and the competitors were asked to describe the socioeconomic changes that are taking place after the end of three-decade-old war in the country. The Director General of the Government Information Department announced the names of the winners, as follows:



n    Nidahas Sri Lankawe Warthamaanaya (Sinhala): Biyagama Aacharige Bagya Shanthini, Biyagama 76/4/1 Aluthpara Wennappuwa of Chilaw/Wen/Holy Family Balika Vidyalaya.

n    Sudanthira Ilankai-in Nihal Kaalam (Tamil): M.F. Famees, Arafa Nagar, Norachcholai, Puttalam of Islaahiyya Arabic College Madampe.

nThe New Era of Post-Independent Sri Lanka (English): Thilina Kalhara Panduwawala of Gateway College, Rajagiriya.

These three essays will be incorporated in the souvenir published by the Government information Department to mark the 63rd independence day.
